The first Tortoiseshell - spring really has sprung!

A very welcome visitor to the garden this afternoon - a beautiful Tortoiseshell feeding on the Crocus.

This inspired a quick walk up The River Nairn where a Goldcrest was doing that thing Goldcrests always do – flitting from branch to branch high up in a conifer. I was walking bye and heard its high pitched call to me to look up, and there it was. Fantastic! A Greenfinch wheezed in the next tree and a group of Linnets made their distinctive jabbering noise from a bush on the other side of the path. Just a quick walk to enjoy the ever increasing warmth in the sunshine; and a chance to get into the mood for spring.
